Here is a summary of the windsurfing and kitesurfing resorts along the East Cape of Baja. Since the resorts and vacation rental units often change their rates and plans, we’ll let their web pages do most of the talking.

LOS BARRILES, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Vela Baja Vela has an international reputation for great service and equipment. Their operation at Los Barriles is top notch. Most customers fly into San Jose del Cabo Airport and take a taxi to Los Barriles. Vela is in front of the Hotel Playa del Sol with direct access to the launch. Vela will set up accommodations and everything you need for a great windsurfing trip.

Vela: Palmas de Cortez: Just 300 yards downwind from the Playa del Sol, this larger hotel offers a pool, Jaccuzi, tennis and racquetball courts, 9-hole golf course plus driving range, oceanfront dining room and poolside swim-up bar. Choose from Poolside, Oceanfront, Garden rooms, and spacious 2 Bedroom oceanfront condos. Access to our Vela Sporting Program are included in our packages, but no longer includes meals.”

Martin Verdugo’s Beach Resort is the famous windsurfing RV park on the beach at Los Barriles. The resort offers a few on-the-beach rooms, abundant RV parking, and camping packages. It is crowded here but there is a large cadre of regulars who consider this place a winter home. The palapa bar on the beach is a great addition.

East Cape RV Resort is situated on 5-1/2 acres in the heart of Los Barriles, directly behind the Otra Vez Restaurant. The park includes a beautiful stand of palm trees and we have planted over $30,000 in planting materials that line each of the oversized sites, which also include 4 pull throughs. Located 1,000 feet (girl feet) from the beach, straight down Ocean Drive. Dubbed by guests as having ‘the best bathrooms in the Baja’.

LA VENTANA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Kijote’s Coffee, http://freakdogcoffee.com/, a long time La Ventana favorite is now located at 2 locations. In La Ventana it is located at the Casa Verde Resort just south of the campground on the street that runs parallel to the beach. The second location is near El Sargento just south of the microwave towers and the baseball field on the west side of the road. Both locations have a large selection of coffee drinks, iced drinks, teas, bagel sandwiches, cakes, cookies and much more. See their web page for a full menu.

Pelican Reef Pelican Reef Resort has top notch accommodations with great views. The beach deck has spectacular views and was the feature photo in a 2003 Windsurfing magazine article. The atmosphere is great. Right off the launch there is some of the best back-side wavesailing in the East Cape when the swell is up.

on an uncrowded stretch of sandy beach.
This season features 2 new casitas with bath as well as new hookups for the
R.V. spaces of any length with a great view of all of La Ventana Bay. Tent
spaces are on a grass lawn. There is a large palapa with full community
kitchen and social area. The old woodfired brick oven turns out faboulous

Baja Joe’s is on the beach south of the campground. The beach here is crowded with lots of people, kites and ATVs. The accommodations are made are low cost bunkrooms and individual cabins surrounding a common courtyard with profuse tropical landscaping. Accommodations share bath houses and a new out-door kitchen. Baja Joe’s also has 7 rooms next to the beach, with private bath and a shared kitchen. Also there are the big RV cabanas, with a bedroom built outside the trailer so that the trailer is your kitchen and bath, a patio connects the two for a private feel. Baja Joe’s new store has basic kiteboarding and windsurfing supplies and offers great deals on kites and accessories and you can demo anything they sell.
