We have all the ingredients for a strong El Norte + Thermal wind event today.

There is high pressure in the Great Basin and blue skies for inland valleys heating so thermal boost. But today we have another ingredient to the wind recipe.

In addition, Monday sees building northerly winds at about 1000 feet above us which should turbocharge the winds Tuesday night and especially Wednesday.

Strong winds aloft encourages the El Norte surface winds to reach the beaches earlier and stronger. It also adds a gust and perhaps a shift factor.

So use caution launching if you have rocks or structures down wind.

This animation starts with the El Norte surface winds then shows the stronger winds just aloft.
