Fog induced local sea breezes defy forecasting.

There is one pattern for which models and all empirical data can not begin to forecast. Like I said in today’s forecast if the fog buries the coast then the winds will be weaker than forecast.

But I should have added that if you see the fog bank burning back over the coast but lingering just offshore you can get sudden upper teens wind at sites nearby. So any time you see words about clouds lingering near the coast keep your eye your window or a cam and on the sensors for a ramp up

. Maybe one day when we understand the marine layer better it will be possible to forecast this setup in advance. But that day has not arrived.

So check out the satellite image below and remember it. Notice how almost each windy sites has a fog bank nearby.
